Eagles Bridge

geography

At that place in 1878 the liberated Bulgarian exiles from Diyarbakir were welcomed. The bridge was built as a symbol of freedom.

It is the work of the Czechs architects Antonin Kolar and Vaclav Proshek. The bronze eagles were made in Vienna. In 1891 they flied off in the sky over Sofia.

The daily life of the citizens of Sofia is passing through the Orlov Bridge. The bridge is a silent witness of numerous events like meetings, processions and chalk drawings. Barricades and burning fires have been erected in the struggles for democracy in recent years.
